We Stand Tall, Natural Resources, Olite 6/5/18
The collaboration that I have seen throughout Spain towards a sustainable future is incredible. The photo of the landscape outside of the castle at Olite captures just one of the many gorgeous views to been seen across northern Spain. It also captures the image of a long row of wind turbines along the mountain top. I selected this photo in particular, because it shows the beauty of natural Spain, as well as the efforts spanish citizens and their government take towards maintaining this nature. In the home of the family that I stay with, they adhere strictly to the organized separation of organic, plastic, and paper waste. They never leave the water running, or the lights on when not in use, and encourage me and my roommate to do the same. In spanish class we discussed this topic, and we found out that not only does my host family dedicate time and effort into sustaining the environment and using energy wisely, but so does every host family in our class. It makes me proud that there are societies that fully support sustainable living, but at the same time it makes me sad that this isn’t the societal paradigm that is currently present in the United States. The image I selected was powerful for me, because it showed both an example of clean energy, and showed a why it is so important to pursue this mindset in the first place. The united states does not have to be an exception, and when I return I will push myself to maintain the sustainable habits I have learned here in Pamplona, and encourage others to do the same.
